Creating a Business Slogan
Your business slogan should express in a few memorable words what your business is about and it’s unique quality. Ask yourself “what is the distinguishing and unique quality about my business that makes it stand out from the competitors? Does that quality meet a need or want of your target market (targeted customer)? Once you have discovered the unique characteristic about your business that meets a need or want of your target market you can then develop a business slogan that emphasizes this valuable and unique quality. A business slogan usually accompanies your business logo and business name.
Business Slogan Tips
Short and memorable– Long slogans can be overcomplicated and difficult to remember. It can also be a burden to fit long slogans in advertising materials. Your business slogan should be expressed in a few memorable words. Many of the best slogans such as “Just Do it” and “Got Milk” are short but memorable.
A slogan should evoke positive feelings – Allstate’s slogan “You’re in good hands with Allstate” evokes trusting and positive feelings. Funny slogans such as Timex’s “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking” and M&M’s “Melts in your mouth, not in your hands” are often memorable and evokes positive feelings.
Should not be offensive– Your slogan should not be offensive to anybody. An offensive slogan can build a bad reputation for your business.
Don’t copy– Don’t try to piggy back off another business’s success by copying or using a similar slogan as theirs. Not only can this cause lawsuit problems but it can also confuse customers. Your business should build it’s unique brand and slogan.
